I agree, Rio said that getting away from home, living on his 'own', looking after himself etc did as much for his character and helped his career as much as the regular football did. he still goes back a couple of times a year and has dinner with his old landlady.
some of these pampered young 'stars' need a bit of grounding.

Not what I heard to be fair, it was more about attitude and time keeping, they think they can pretty much do as they please as he's going to be a massive star
Not sure if that includes him but a nice loan up te North would do him the world of good I reckon.

my apologies, so he gets into the first team and decides that his career will be best served by staying there and trying to cement his place. tbh if his parents have the kind of influence that some are saying then it could easily have been more their decision.

Funnily enough the things people have been saying with regards to Oxford/family etc remind me of when Spence was coming through. his family were man utd fans and when tomkins got into the first team squad and spence didn't they kept saying they would see out his contract and take him to man utd. i thin we ended up giving him a decent contract, still didnt make it.
